Holistic Practitioner Spotlight with Dr. Mark Breiner, a Biological Dentist, Discusses the Problems Associated with Being Toxic
We are speaking with Dr. Mark Breiner, DDS, FAGD, FIAOMT who finds that a high percentage of patients are very toxic because they have their mesenchyme blocked. The mesenchyme is the tissue that surrounds every cell, where the exchange of all our nutrients and waste occur.
Tell Us a Story About a Patient Who Showed Symptoms of Toxicity and How You Helped
Bev, age 45, suffered from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic sinus problems, terrible brain fog, abdominal problems, and very painful menses. She had been unable to work for the past three years and felt that her poor health was stressing her marriage. Bev came to me because she heard that root canals could adversely affect one’s health, and everything she had tried heretofore had not helped. She had two root-canaled teeth.
What had your patient tried before seeking you out?
Bev had seen numerous practitioners; traditional MD’s, functional MD’s, naturopaths, homeopaths, dentists, acupuncturists, and others. She had tried various therapies, supplements, detox treatments, diets (and avoided dairy and gluten), all to no avail. Bev even had her mercury fillings removed and felt worse after their removal. She despaired of ever recovering. On a scale of 1-10, with one feeling like you want to stay in bed 24/7 and ten feeling “superific” mentally, physically, and emotionally, Bev said she was a “3”.
How did you arrive at your course of treatment?
Bev is typical of many patients I see. I find that patients with these types of concerns are very toxic, and a high percentage of them have their mesenchyme blocked. The mesenchyme, also known as interstitial tissue, is the tissue that surrounds every cell and where we have our nerve endings, capillaries, venules, and lymphatic(s). It is vital to know that it is in the mesenchyme that the exchange of nutrients and waste occur.
When you breathe in, oxygen is first transported to your lungs, then to your arteries and down to your capillaries. Here oxygen molecules are unloaded into the mesenchyme and then diffuse into your cells. The cells’ metabolic waste product, carbon dioxide, comes out of your cells and into the mesenchyme where it is then picked up by the venules, transported to your veins, and then to your lungs for expiration.
Mesenchyme cannot function efficiently if it is blocked from doing its work. What could cause blockage is high toxicity and symptoms then would appear. I found that Bev’s mesenchyme was blocked. She was toxic with chemicals, solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, and fungus. Her root canal teeth were also a problem. I was able to determine this by using energetic testing, known as Electroacupuncture According to Voll (EAV).
What modalities or therapies did you implement and what was the outcome of the services you provided?
I have found that it is essential to treat both the physical and non-physical -represented by emotional, spiritual, and things that pass down generationally. By addressing both, there is a significant positive outcome about 90% of the time.
- To treat the non-physical, I look for one homeopathic remedy to positively impact the overall constitution of the person.
- To address the physical level, I first use a combination of homeopathic remedies to clear the various toxins. (Bev’s level of environmental toxins greatly diminished by employing this method of treatment). Dental treatment may involve the safe removal of mercury fillings, possible extraction of root canal teeth, and addressing temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) issues.
EAV testing uncovered that one root canal tooth was a problem, and the other tolerated. Bev decided to remove the problematic tooth.
Over six months being monitored, Bev went from being a “3” to an “8” with significant improvement in all her symptoms. Biological Dentistry addressed for Bev and so many others, an often neglected, yet vital missing link in achieving and sustaining health and a good quality of life.
Why and When Did You Choose the Holistic Path?
After graduating from dental school, I enlisted in the Army. My commanding officer was into nutrition, a subject not given attention to in my dental education. He spent time teaching my wife and me about this and how nutrition was a key factor in health. Thus began our journey down a holistic path.
When our first son was a toddler, he suffered from one ear infection after another. Someone gave me the book, “The Organon” by the renowned homeopathic physician, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. The philosophy of medicine presented in this book resonated with my wife and me. Witnessing the homeopathic remedy stop our son’s ear infections was a curiosity that started my own journey into studying and then employing homeopathic and energetic treatments.
What Lessons Have Your Work and Personal Experiences Taught You?
Most patients come to me because they are at wit’s end and have tried many avenues of treatment to no avail. After many failed attempts to restore their health, an experienced holistic dentist is often the last resort.
In my experience, I find that the most significant underlying problem in the chronically ill is toxic overload. It is imperative to decrease the toxic load to have any chance of successful treatment. The average American is on eleven prescription drugs, which is not the answer to the resolution of most diseases. The question that needs to be asked is not how we make all these drugs affordable, but how do we improve the health and vitality of the individual so that they do not need all these drugs.
Do not get me wrong; there is a place for all approaches to medicine. Someone that has their thyroid removed will need thyroid medication, or a person with diabetes may need insulin if their problem cannot be resolved, life-threatening bacterial infection calls for antibiotic treatment. However, drugs have side effects, which then are treated with other drugs, and the merry-go-round continues. The various energetic approaches to health should usually be the first line of treatment.
