Tell Us a Story About  a Client Who Experienced Emotion Code and How You Helped

Almost everybody has self-sabotaging beliefs about themselves which keep them from moving forward and creating a life they want to be living.  Examples of some common ones are:  “I’m not good enough,”  “I’m unlovable,”  “There’s something wrong with me,” and “I don’t deserve.”

Pete is a 33 year old single man with a history of extreme emotional and physical abuse.  He said he had been depressed his entire life and his goal was to eliminate his depression.  He had been on an antidepressant for almost five years.  After coming across EFT on the internet, he contacted me for that, and also said he was open to other modalities to help with his PTSD.

The first thing I did was to check if his energies were crossing over as they should be. When a person is physically and emotionally healthy, the energy in their body crosses over, from side to side, and from top to bottom, and from front to back. Pete’s energies were not following that pattern. His energies were running up and down his body, which is known as a homolateral pattern.  (This is Donna Eden’s work that explains how people with this pattern tend toward depression.)  I taught Pete how to easily correct this with certain movements done daily over a period of time.

Pete told me he felt he had a cloud hanging over his heart.

Dr. Brad Nelson, developer of the Emotion Code, writes that the Heart-Wall is created by trapped emotions around the heart.  It blocks your ability to give and receive love, creates depression, isolation and numbness, makes it harder to heal physically and blocks you from success. I thought clearing Pete’s Heart-Wall would be an important first step and felt guided to offer Emotion Code which has been described as “EFT on steroids”.

After six sessions using the Emotion Code, Pete stated he felt more open and better able to feel love. His Heart-Wall was cleared. As we live life and things happen, we can recreate a Heart-Wall. For this reason, when I see a client for more than a month or two, I recheck them. Pete tested positive, however, there was only one trapped emotion, and that was rage.

It is important to clear limiting beliefs related to the trapped emotion.

If an emotion of “unworthy” is identified and cleared, we address the self-limiting belief of “I am unworthy,” and replace it with a positive one, such as “I am worthy and okay just as I am.”  After Pete’s Heart-Wall was cleared, I continued with other modalities such as EFT, TAT and ZPoint when I felt guided to do so to help rid Pete of his depression.

Pete is committed to fully healing from his trauma and regularly does his suggested homework. Several months after we began meeting, Pete no longer felt he needed to be on an antidepressant, and, under the direction of his doctor, he is now totally off  it. He reports feeling “lighter and happier,” “more peaceful and calm,” and feels more connected with his friends.  He reports that his friends also notice a difference in him.

Pete still deals with some generalized anxiety, although to a much lesser degree, and I continue using Emotion Code and have added breath work to address this. He is grateful for all the healing that has occurred and I am grateful to have been able to make a difference in his life.

Why and When Did You Choose the Holistic Path?

After graduating from social work school with my MSW, I had been  working in a community mental health center for several years when I came across Thought Field Therapy (TFT), which is the precursor to EFT. This was back in the 1990s. Dr. Roger Callahan, developer of TFT, described how a woman’s phobia was quickly healed  by tapping on certain acupuncture points. I became excited that change could happen so easily and took Levels I – IV of TFT.

This was my introduction  to “energy psychology” and I continue to be an  avid student of this ever-evolving field.  I also learned about TAT (Tapas Acupressure Technique) in the 90s.   The developer, Tapas Fleming, includes spirituality, which greatly appeals to me.  We are mind/body/spirit, so it was totally natural for me to continue learning and utilizing these holistic approaches which in my experience are much more effective than traditional talk therapy alone. I am frequently amazed at what comes up for clients during sessions and the healing that occurs.   They are equally amazed.

What Lessons Have Your Work and Personal Experiences Taught You?

I used to get so frustrated with myself because I could never choose just one modality to use with clients. One day I expressed this to a spiritual teacher I was working with and she told me that one of my soul qualities was that of being an integrator.  I felt such relief and am now grateful that it is “okay” to integrate different modalities.

This really brought home to me that we are all unique expressions of Source, and I see this with my clients all the time. Some are drawn to one modality and others to another, and they each work at their own pace. I have learned to respect and honor each client’s individuality and their own unique journey. Their way – not my way.

My work with clients has shown me firsthand the power of our thoughts, especially our subconscious ones. When a client does not seem to be making progress, I have learned that it is usually a subconscious belief that is blocking the progress. For example, a client consciously would say they “want to be happy,” but subconsciously they “want to be miserable,” and, of course, that’s what they will create in their lives. The outer world always reflects the inner.   Fortunately this can easily be cleared.

My experience has also taught me that healing does not have to be arduous –  sessions can be fun, and my clients and I often laugh during sessions.

What Would You Like Your Clients to Know About Your Services that They May Not be Aware of?

The work I do is just as effective over Skype or phone as it is in person. My office is in Massachusetts, but I have worked with clients in Europe as well as in  other states. I especially love working with people who are awakening to who they really are, who are interested in working with spirituality. As I am almost always taking some kind of course and expanding, I share my new insights and techniques with clients, so they benefit as well.
