Holistic Practitioner Spotlight with Sarah Granahan, Energy Worker, Author and Teacher
We are speaking with Sarah Granahan, President and Co-Founder of Color My Spirit, an organization she founded in 2012 that through energy work offers inspiration and motivation to people through various multi-media and self-healing techniques.
Tell Us a Story About a Client Who Couldn’t Sleep and How Energy Work Helped
Melissa told me she had booked a session to “pick my brain” and learn first-hand what is so great about the work that I do. I explained about chakras and energy fields and the ways that energy work can help you feel restored again.
Many times a discussion is not enough encouragement for a client to experience a session, but, Melissa decided to try it out. She, however, made sure to let me know that the medicines she took weren’t doing much and she didn’t have the confidence that there would be anything I could do that could help her sleep better at night. I chuckled to myself and thought, “I’d like to see how this all pans out too!”
Set an Intention
Most clients who book sessions have a special intention in mind for support. Melissa’s concern was to enjoy a restful sleep. What’s beautiful about the work that I do is you don’t have to come in needing support with a physical, emotional, mental or spiritual concern. The energy will always go where it needs to for that particular person’s highest good.
I gave Melissa a Reiki session since she had come in asking about this particular modality. When we finished up, I honestly thought I would never hear back from her again. But to my surprise, a week later my phone rang and Melissa, now sleeping through the night valued the energy work and signed up for additional energy sessions for herself and her husband.
To this day, Melissa is one of my regulars and has fallen in love with the many benefits that energy work can do for the body, mind and soul.
Why and When Did You Choose the Holistic Path?
If you would have asked me 20 years ago what I wanted to do, I would have told you I wasn’t sure – but I always knew that I wanted to help people. At the same time, I felt like there was something bigger in life that I was supposed to be doing. So I tried to fit that belief about helping people into a traditional medical profession. I took some nursing classes and thought about counseling too, but those careers didn’t quite feel right for me. I was frustrated and clueless as to what my career would manifest as.
What truly guided me on my journey was when I became ill in 2006. I was 25 and was hardly able to function. I thought I had caught the flu. But as weeks went by and my symptoms didn’t let up, I went to see various physicians. All my test results kept coming back as normal, but I didn’t feel close to normal. I was losing weight, had severe digestive problems, we losing my hair and had no energy whatsoever.
Not being able to figure out what was wrong with me through conventional means, I had to explore being my own advocate and hope there was something out there that could help restore my health. What I realize now is that this was my “university” or “training” for the career path that I would eventually embark on.
Before Modern Medicine, How Did People Heal?
To find relief, I had to do research. I wondered how people living at a time or in a community without the medical advances we have now would heal themselves? What tools would they use if they didn’t have a drug or medicine to help them feel better? I began to learn about energy healing modalities and ways to help support all levels of the body, mind and spirit.
As I put some of these alternative healing approaches into place and to my amazement, I began to feel better and heal!! In that moment I declared that I wanted to make it my mission to help support others on their paths to feeling better with deeper healing. I took classes on the weekends to learn about energy healing and was able to cultivate my gifts of intuition and empathy. Always learning and teaching, I continue to expand my abilities and bring hope and healing to others. I seriously love the work that I get to do.
What Lessons Have Your Work and Personal Experiences Taught You?
We definitely need to spend more time in compassion and with mental health care in our world if we want things to get better. Each one of us makes a BIG contribution on the humanity scale. We are really all connected and help create the world we live in.
Even if you feel your life, relationships, career and other areas have been good to you, the more you can turn inward and work on yourself, the better your life will be and the more balanced you will feel. That then makes positive ripples that can help everyone.
What Would You Like Your Clients to Know About Your Services that They May Not be Aware of?
When people struggle with sleep disturbances, anxiety, pain, grief, or fatigue, I help them explore the messages their bodies are sending them so they can find relief and support. My sessions support the energy fields and help to re-balance the chakras leaving clients feeling renewed and restored.
Clients who experience poor wound healing or side-effects from medication and chemotherapy also derive benefit. I can also help people pinpoint what is going on in their bodies if they are not in touch with their feelings or the symptoms they are experiencing.
Balancing the Body’s Energy Field
At times people will come in with one complaint or issue but will leave learning about another area or support mechanism that can help them. For people who want to clear out old energy and support general well-being, they often are amazed that certain issues from the past might still be cycling around in their body’s energy field causing the physical, mental or emotional issues they are experiencing.
The work I do is also appropriate for children and animals. I love working with them. They are so receptive to healing and don’t need as much energy support as adults do.
There are also people that recognize they have gifts of empathy and intuition. I help guide them so they can learn how to use their gifts and explore who they are meant to be.
