Holistic Practitioner Spotlight with Jane Oelke, A Naturopath and Doctor of Homeopathy, and How She Addressed Issues Associated with a Patient Suffering from Shooting Neck Pain

We are speaking with Jane Oelke, ND, PhD, on how she helped a patient with shooting neck pain using Electro-Acupuncture According to Voll (EAV) testing along with homeopathic remedies and exercise to stop her pain allowing her to resume normal day to day activities.

Tell Us a Story About  a Patient Suffering from Shooting Neck Pain and How You Helped to Get to the Source and Turn it Around

Julie is a client who experienced shooting neck pain. The pain began on the right side of her neck and caused tingling and numbness in her right forearm and hand. She believed it was due to a repetitive motion injury suffered while working as a cashier moving grocery products for 8 hours per day while in a sitting position. Over time, the pain also moved to the left side of her neck, and left arm and hand. The medical doctor thought it might be due to aging. She didn’t believe him because she was only 31 years old!

The physician prescribed an MRI and found a pinching between the C5 to C6 vertebrae. They recommended NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) pain medications that didn’t help her pain. Then they prescribed steroids. Julie experienced a serious reaction with the first dose. The next step was physical therapy. She claimed that it made the pain worse. Finally, Julie’s doctors told her that she would not be able to work as a cashier or lift more than 5 pounds, finally making the correlation that the injury came from the repetitive motion she did for many hours over a few months’ time.

Julie started looking for another job. Yet with the limiting movement and constant pain in her arms, she felt restricted on what she could do. Sadly, with her degree in digital media, Julie found that sitting at a computer caused her pain to intensify.

What had the patient tried before seeking you out?

In addition to the medications and physical therapy, Julie also tried the services of three chiropractors with various levels of comfort in treating pinched vertebrae. The last one she tried did provide relief that lasted for a couple days. Julie wanted to continue with her chiropractic care and came to me to find out how I could help the chiropractor’s adjustment hold better and further relieve the pain.

What modalities or therapies did you implement and what was the outcome of the services you provided?

I use homeopathic remedies for a variety of conditions. Specific homeopathic remedies target emotional trauma held in the cells. Julie felt she needed to deal with the stress of not finding a suitable job and how that was contributing to this stuck pain energy in her neck. To assess how her stress showed up energetically, and which remedies had the best potential to reduce the stress level, I utilized a galvanic skin response (skin conductance) test to understand where their energy was currently focused. For Julie, a number of nervous system issues showed up along with dietary imbalances. She recognized that the more sugar she ate, the worse the pain she experienced.

Along with laser energy therapies to help improve circulation in the tissues, I also recommended certain stretching exercises and vagus nerve stimulation exercises to improve circulation. Between the continued chiropractic sessions, homeopathic remedies, and exercises, the pain was mostly relieved. There was still another effective remedy for relief.

In her present state, Julie often experienced intense nervous system stress just thinking about doing her current job. That’s when I recommended a specific CBD oil that quickly reduced her trauma and helped her to moved away from the cashiering and stocking duties she was doing. She now found the ability to find a new job in the field she was trained for. But again sitting in front of a computer, Julie had to find a sitting position that worked for her along with frequent breaks using the exercises to keep her circulation flowing. To keep pain from creeping in, it was also important that Julie’s body chemistry didn’t become too acidic, so she knew that she must restrict her sugar intake. When Julie experienced the occasional neck stiffness, she used the CBD oil and laser. Julie now is happy to report that she no longer experiences the debilitating shooting neck pain.

Why and When Did You Choose the Holistic Path?

I started this holistic path in 1989. As a mechanical engineer teaching students how to use computers at a local community college while raising 3 children, I was having chronic headaches. I went to see a Naturopathic doctor who used galvanic skin response on acupressure points (EAV) to find energetic imbalances in the body. After following his recommendation to avoid  artificial sweeteners, my headaches disappeared along with some chronic eczema I was experiencing. I was very intrigued with the technology and wanted to learn more. I completed the four-year program at the Institute of Natural Medicine to get a MS in Nutrition and a PhD in Homeotherapeutics and Natural Medicine. I received my diploma in Naturopathy in 2001 to further my education in the natural field.

What Lessons Have Your Work and Personal Experiences Taught You?

I now know from experience that everyone is different and individualized recommendations are necessary. I help people find the root cause of their symptoms and disease patterns which is why I use bio-communication testing. This non-invasive testing quickly shows where the sub-conscious body is focusing its energy to help the person get or stay healthy. Using this technology, I get the information of which organs, foods, toxins, hormones, neurotransmitters, and emotions are causing stress which then directs me to know which type of lifestyle changes and homeopathic and nutritional supplements will help improve health. To show clients what is true for them, I continue to use various technology devices to help educate my clients in becoming more aware of their personal health issues and what they can do. Educating them in seeing this is very satisfying.

Coaching clients to move outside their comfort zone to be healthier is essential. In my personal experiences I found that pushing myself toward challenges, standing up for what I believe, even when it is not the popular or common approach, and being passionate and celebrating life whenever possible really enriches my life. I like to show others how they can do that too.
