Holistic Practitioner Spotlight with Connie Spruill, Feng Shui Practitioner, Who Discusses the Science of the Person-Place Connection

We are speaking with Connie Spruill, who uses the science and practice of Feng Shui to bring awareness to her clients about how a change in their physical surroundings in their home and workplace can help them move forward in life.

Tell Us a Story About  a Client Who Felt Pain and Restricted in Life and How Changing Surroundings Helped

Client Sally, a sixty-plus single woman felt lonely. She spent a lot of time reading and watching TV. She complained constantly about recurring headaches, shoulder aches and pains, lower-back problems and dizziness. Sally’s doctors said her symptoms were not related to any illness and any conventional treatments they prescribed for her symptoms were not lasting. She continually went back to her doctor for the same thing over and over again. Because she hadn’t gotten any lasting results, Sally, on her own went to a chiropractor and a massage therapist. She also used over-the-counter medications and prayer. She finally decided to check out something in her environment and called on me.

Looking at Surroundings

Based on what Sally told me her doctors said that she was not ill physically, I observed the way she worked when cleaning or cooking and looked at her ergonomics and body size. Using measuring tape and taking pictures of her when she sat down and how she positioned herself in her living room chair told the story. The Feng Shui analysis picked up that she sat for long periods of time in a particular chair when reading or viewing television. The chair was positioned in the space in such a way that she found herself leaning forward to get light from the window for reading. When she was sitting watching TV, her feet did not touch the floor. Sally was out of alignment with the natural movements of her body.

Little Changes Make a Big Difference

Help with repositioning Sally’s body was achieved by changing the position of the furniture in the room so that natural light would be directed on her reading materials. To get her feet off the ground we simply put a foot stool beneath her feet. Placing a pillow behind her back and repositioning her TV for easier viewing gave her better posture and less twisting of her body.

I advised her to walk more in nature as weather permits and seek out chair yoga as a choice of exercise for stretching and flexibility. This would also be a place for Sally to meet others her own age. Getting a small pet to nurture and keep her company would not only get her out of the chair and out of the house, but the energy in the house would be enlivened. Sally has reported to me that the constant pain she was experiencing has finally stopped and her mood has been greatly uplifted.

Why and When Did You Choose the Holistic Path?

I’ve been a career counselor/small business adviser and life coach for 30+ years. I taught for years under a workforce development grant. Having a Master’s degree in Adult Education, I noticed that so many individuals complained about life and being unhappy. They experienced unexplained aches and pains for which doctors prescribed medicine without really seeking why chronic issues continued to pop up.

When traveling in Australia on a business contract, a colleague introduced me to Feng Shui, a science about how our cellular structure dictates what our DNA-blueprint can due for us. This modality mimics behavioral epigenetics and is also a “Law of Attraction” tool. I couldn’t wait to get back to the states to research it. Learning about Feng Shui gave me renewed energy in my work. I could also incorporate the scientific knowledge with my intuition which was well developed from childhood.

What Lessons Have Your Work and Personal Experiences Taught You?

Feng Shui is not about the person as much as it is about what they surround themselves with. Their fears are replicated in their home interiors and work places. If people realized that their physical surroundings in their home and workplace talked to them subliminally, they would understand why they don’t move forward in life like getting the raise they wanted, or meeting someone special, or healing from an illness. With years of experience and research on this discipline at a Master level, I can read the spaces and tell the client why and point the way to go.

It’s like losing weight. Clients can be given a plethora of advice but they have to implement it. As a Master, I show them where they are now and I show them the path they can follow to change. Pictures, icons, symbols in the home and workplace send messages to the subconscious that clients act out in their lives. Only the client can change it by removing the negative messages and replacing them with symbols that represent how they want to be, where they want to go, and more.

Sometimes results happen immediately. Other times, a day or two. When I work with a client and afterwards, I get pure joy out of the “ahas” they have. What they say, think and do gets communicated through their cellular structure of the body and those cells communicate to the DNA. The DNA holds the information but it is only a blueprint that can take no action. Through our thoughts and actions, we as humans make the choice to move forward based on scientific research and discoveries of Behavioral Epigenetics.
