Rolfing, also called Structural Integration, is a system of soft tissue manipulation and education about movement as it relates to gravity itself. It is based upon the idea that human function is improved when the head, torso, pelvis, legs and feet are in proper alignment. It is thought that one can achieve balance by manipulating and stretching the body’s fascial tissues (the thin tissue coverings surrounding muscles, tendons and organs). If the tissues and muscles are “stuck”, the motion is restricted. This is a deep tissue approach that addresses all layers of the body to ease the tension of the entire system.
